For thousands of years, during festivals and other religious gatherings, they would play music to soothe me. Fuck that. Who are they to tell me, a daughter of Ra, that my wrath is somehow unjustified? Who are they to think they can barter with me, a warrior goddess?
No, I choose to maintain my wrath. I choose to remind you mere mortals of your weaknesses and force you to face them. I allow your wrath to blossom, a wrath that allows you to bring forth change.
They say I’m like Kali. Maybe so. We have not tested that yet. It would be glorious event if the two of us would meet on the battlefield and leave a wake of destruction behind us as we dance. On the other hand, maybe if we are alike, we would turn that against the whole world. That is a thought.

There was music before speech. It was just whistles and simple percussion in the beginning, but even then the message was obvious to everyone involved. No words were needed. Just the exhilarating feeling of those sounds pulsating through your body. Sure, you can construct complex pieces of art from sounds, but to reach the masses, you still need that raw, primal energy, even if that energy has been disguised by modern technology.
But as Ryan Coogler demonstrated in Sinners, there isn’t really a difference between the improvised drums of nomadic peoples and the modern drum machines, as far as the audience is concerned. Music is music.
And the energy is real. From those nomadic groups of few dozen people to the tens of thousands you might see today, Bodies moving together, some of them even managing to sync with each other. The quality of the music doesn’t even matter. What’s important is the attitude.
Then you’ll see these people in the crowd. Someone just not participating. Those are the ones you need to pay attention to.
